Being a global citizen is being aware of everything happening around the world and wanting to help out.  My idea is that the rich should help the poor because the rich are more privileged.  It is our job as humans to create a community and help out as best as we can.  There are many set backs when trying to help out and create a world with more global citizens especially in poorer countries.  I believe the U.S is plays a big part in helping out in the world, because of how privileged some people are.  Many people want to help out whether it be someone they know who is sick or bringing an entire village in Africa water, both will benefit our planet.  Earth for now is all that we know of with life on it so we should be able to realize that people are the most important thing that we know of.  If there are so many global citizens out there why haven't we made a big change yet?
Transportation

It is hard to think of ways to communicate with others around the world when there are so many factors that get in the way.  When people don't have cars or other uses of transportation they tend to help ones who are closest to them because others are hard to reach.  Poorer families tend to help out their families first because they are just trying to stay alive.  The richer community are the ones who are in control because they are the decision makers and get to choose how they spend their money.  Being a global citizen those who can help out should because those who need it would do the same for us.  Transportation isn't always an option for traveling around the world to help those in need.  Many people can't afford a plane ticket to travel across the country.  We need to help those countries around us that are easiest to travel to in order to better our community.

Education

Education is a privilege many people take for granted, but when you think about it you need to be educated to be able to help out around the world.  Many people want to change the world to make it a better place, but we always don't have the right tools or don't necessarily know what is wrong.  Education provides us with the essentials of better understanding each other and our planet we live on.  Education brings people together and helps people to understand or learn about what is going on around them.  Poorer countries aren't provided with education and aren't always aware of why they aren't living in the same situations that richer communities are.  Being a global citizen is putting others before yourself and finding ways to better the lives of people in your community before your own.  Education in poorer areas will better the lives of families in these poorer communities because they will know more about the struggles they are facing.

Community

When people come together as one to help each other out that creates a community and a better way of life.  There are many types of communities throughout the world.  We as humans still haven't been able to come together as one.  Learning to grow as a community even if it is just the community we live in it will better our lives because having more people to help out works better.  Richer communities need to open their minds and realize there are people out there who need help more than they do.  We are all people and should all be treated equally.

Technology

Many people have technology and other ways to communicate to each other, but as we talked about in class we don't really reach out to someone across the world unless they're a pen pal or relative.  We talk to friends and family through technology, but never reach out to a random person around the world who probably thinks it would be weird to reach out to us as well.  Those without internet or technology are the ones who really are asking for help but we can never hear from them because they don't have access to technology.  Being a global citizen we are called to reach out to create a bigger community, a global community and saving lives of those who need help the most.

  1. I enjoyed how you broke up your blog into how we can be better global citizens in many different areas. However you focused a lot on the rich which is reasonable seeing how much of the world's wealthy they own from the videos in class. Yet I think everyone has a part in being a global citizen even if it's a small act from a lower class or middle class citizen like giving up their morning coffee run and donating to a certain cause or giving food to a homeless person they see on the way home. I also agree with your wondering in how we haven't made a big change in our world yet when there seems to be so many active global citizens. I think this also has to due with different' nation's histories, economies, and governments. Like one of the in class videos showed even when millionaires donate money to poorer countries those countries owe the richer countries a debt of money that wipes out any effort to aid them. I would love to hear different people's opinions on practical steps we can take to actually help our global citizens. Also have you heard about the Giving Pledge? It's all about the rich giving to the poor and is an awesome solution to many world issues. http://givingpledge.org
